I am from São Tomé and Príncipe (STP). I completed the Hotel Receptionist vocational course in 2017, when I was still living in STP, through the Portuguese Escola de Formação Turística e Hoteleira dos Açores VET school, which was there to provide training for a year and a half. The training course allowed me to gain all the knowledge I needed to work as a Hotel Receptionist, as I had no previous experience in this field. I started working at the Sundy Praia Hotel on Príncipe Island, and in 2018 I came to Portugal and started working at the Aldeia dos Capuchos Hotel.
In this work you need to have very good communication skills, both with the hotel’s different teams and with customers; speak foreign languages – at least English – and be willing to help customers solve their problems. I like that in this job every day is different, meeting people from all over the world and helping to fulfill customers’ requests. I do not like working shifts.
As a receptionist, you learn a lot through practice, but I would like to further my knowledge of hotel management and, who knows, one day be the general manager of a hotel.
